Kèr Unkom (/un/ /kom/ [chalk] [blue]) is a subtropical Small Town located in the Kveviēid Region of the Tetbur Commune.

The name Kèr Unkom is derived from the Tauric language, as Kèr Unkom was founded by Alothrix Vaugh, who was culturaly Tauric.

Climate

Kèr Unkom has a yearly average temperature of 28°C (82°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a hot 32°C (89°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a pleasant 25°C (77°F). Kèr Unkom receives an average of 139 cm/y (54 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Kèr Unkom covers an area of nearly 3 km2 (1 mi2), and an average elevation of 5448 m (17874 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Kèr Unkom was founded durring the late 14th century in fall of the year 1267, by Alothrix Vaugh. The establishment of Kèr Unkom suffered from several major issues, resulting in the need to develop many solutions to basic problems. Problems such as a lack of fresh water, logistical support, poor quality tools, and the odd monster or two. Howeaver, these were overcome in time.

Kèr Unkom was built using the conventions of Tauric durring the late 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Kèr Unkom is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Kèr Unkom is buildings are grouped arround an odd layout of premissive cobblestone streets, which seems to be based on an overlapping squair patern such that there are small squares at the cornor of every bigger square. Sometimes buildings exist in the smaller squaires, other times they are open spaces, or occupied by temporary structures. The town has a fortified albit thin brick wall. The wall has most of the feeatures of a typical castle wall, just on a much smaller scale and and budget. Notably brick isn't a particuarly soild choice for resisting siege weapons. Kèr Unkom's wall wouldn't hinder a proper army, but it is more than sufishent for bandits and other small marauding groups. The town's monster and outlaw focused fortifications have recently undergone extensive repairs and renovations, such that the repairwork is imeadiently apparent and can be spotted due to the diffring ages of materials. One can't help but wonder what brought the need for those repairs to the town.

Kèr Unkom has the unmistakable air of a town on its last legs. Everything is a bit slipshod and ramshackle. Everyone is at work, or drinking. No one has anything in their eyes other than fear and despair. Kèr Unkom ’s existence was once fed by scholarly pursuits. But the income once drawn in by the works of scribes and academics has dried up and the town is drifting down the stream of history as it dries up. Everywhere about the town one can see abandoned schools, libraries, and other academic structures. Locals can be overheard having academic discussions, as well as talking about scholarly subjects in general. It’s quite clear the town places a lot of value on education and being a learned individual. Even in these times.

Civic Infrastructure

Kèr Unkom has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Kèr Unkom.

Kèr Unkom has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Kèr Unkom has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Kèr Unkom has a Hall of Slayers, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Kèr Unkom has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Kèr Unkom's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Kèr Unkom has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Kèr Unkom has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Kèr Unkom's chapel was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by grandeur of scale, simplicity of geometric forms, dramatic use of columns, and a preference for blank walls. This design ethos extended to re-imagining earlier styles of structure to create them anew, with a similar overall look and feel to one another..

In Kèr Unkom every night at precisely midnight every structure in town is engulfed by sailors fire until the end of the witching hour.

The Leshy, Leaf near Kèr Unkom are known to be quite timid.

Kèr Unkom's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves reenactments to channel Elven High Magic energies of tier 2 via moments of science.

Considerable local tension likely exists over controlling the access to the site and maximizing the profits from foreign visitors.

Kèr Unkom's is something of a geological and arcane anomaly, as neither physical nor magical law entirely explains its formation.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century, Kèr Unkom was attacked by soldiers from another nation, waging a greater campaign. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Kèr Unkom lost 292 people, 122 livestock, and 97 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 30, when members of Kèr Unkom's militia enacted an operation to escort a particular solgiers group to a safe location. The operation was complicated by a key segment of the operation that deepened entirely on a stealth mission going perfectly. The conflict ended with pitched battle between both forces, which ended in victory for Kèr Unkom's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Kèr Unkom's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
